Thin needles are inserted into the skin in order to improve circulation and reduce muscular pain via the deactivation of trigger points.
WHAT IS DRY NEEEDLING?
Dry needling (also known as trigger point dry needling and intramuscular stimulation) is a therapeutic technique. Through the use of a sterile needle, inserted through the skin and into the muscle belly, the needle helps to eliminate pain caused by myofascial trigger points (knots). This technique can be considered as a contemporary adaptation of Acupuncture. However, it is is more directly targeted towards these trigger points. Therefore, more directly focused upon the treatment of muscle pain. It is considered a complimentary technique by Massage Land, and although offered by itself, Dry Needling is most effective as part of a complete treatment plan.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF DRY NEEDLING?
Although still considered a pseudoscience, there is evidence to support that Dry Needling offers specific additional benefit when used in combination with standard therapies. These include:
- Reduce muscular pain and tension
- Reduce or assist with muscle cramps
- Improve flexibility and range of motion
- Assist in recovery
- Improve blood flow
- Release or reduce severity of myofascial trigger points (knots)
IS DRY NEEDLING RIGHT FOR ME?
Dry Needling is generally combined with other massage therapies such as Remedial Massage, and the best full body massage would not be complete without Dry Needling. However, Dry Needling can still be performed alone, and may be suitable for you if:
- You have received a referral from a medical practitioner.
- You have persistent pain, tightness or soreness caused by myofascial trigger points (knots).
- You have chronic back pain, joint pain or headaches.
- You have concerns about your posture due to muscle tightness or injury
- You suffer from any of the following: carpal tunnel, frozen shoulder, muscle cramps or tennis elbow.
