Glass cups are used to create suction on the skin which reduces inflammation and increases blood flow while simultaneously relaxing deep tissue musculature.
WHAT IS CUPPING THERAPY?
Cupping is a form of complementary therapy in which special cups are placed on the skin in order to create suction. This suction draws the skin and underlying musculature into the cup. Then, the pressure created by this suction is believed to have a myriad of positive effects across the body, including the circulatory and nervous systems. Although Cupping Therapy is a traditional practice across Asia, Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Latin America, its ultimate efficacy is a highly debated topic. Regardless, anecdotal evidence seems to imply that it works very well when offered by our skilled therapists at Massage Land.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?
Cupping Therapy is often used in combination with other therapeutic techniques but can also be offered as a standalone treatment. Some of the potential benefits of Cupping Therapy include:
- Reduced pain and inflammation
- Improved blood flow
- Lowered stress levels
- Improved metabolism in skin tissue
- Improved lymphatic drainage
- Better autonomic nervous system health

WHAT CAN I EXPECT DURING SESSION AT MASSAGE LAND?
As the highest-rated massage therapist in Tamworth, we pride ourselves on giving you the treatment you need so you can leave the pain behind.
During Cupping Therapy, numerous glass cups will be used to create firm suction on specific areas of your body, most often across the back. The cups are left in place anywhere between 5 and 20 minutes, depending on the individual and their specific needs. After this time, the suction is released, and the cups removed. Be aware that cupping will leave temporary superficial marks on the skin, and in certain cases longer lasting bruising may be observed.
Cupping Therapy will also often be performed in combination with many other techniques based on your individual needs while receiving a Remedial Massage treatment, and its use here is similar to its use as a standalone treatment.
It is highly recommended that you wait at least three hours, and ideally up to 24 hours, before showering after receiving Cupping Therapy, as the skin will be extremely sensitive to changes in temperature following your cupping treatment.
